Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the owner of PanaCompass ("PanaCompass", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use the PanaCompass website and services (the "Service"). It also explains your rights over your information.

We have deliberately built PanaCompass to collect as little personal information as possible.

The short version

  • We do not use cookies or any similar tracking technologies.
  • Any analytics we use are privacy-friendly and cookieless — no advertising trackers, and nothing that identifies you personally.
  • The only personal information we collect is what you choose to send us through our contact form (your name, email, and an optional message).
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we never pass it to a third-party professional without your explicit consent.

1. Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to visitors to our website and to anyone who contacts us through the Service. Because our readers come from many countries, we aim to honor the privacy rights described below for everyone, regardless of where you live.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us. When you fill in our contact form, we collect:

  • your first name and last name;
  • your email address; and
  • any optional message you choose to include.

You are not required to use the contact form to read our guides or browse the site. You only share this information if you choose to contact us.

Technical information. We do not set cookies, and any analytics we use are privacy-friendly and aggregate (see "Analytics" below). Like any website, our infrastructure provider (see "Service providers" below) automatically processes basic technical data — such as your IP address and standard request information — for the limited purposes of delivering the website and protecting it against abuse and security threats. We do not use this data to identify or track you, and we do not combine it with your contact details.

3. Cookies

We do not use cookies. We do not set tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies, and we do not embed third-party trackers that would do so. If this ever changes, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first.

4. How we use your information

We use the information you send us only to:

  • respond to your enquiry and provide the guidance you have asked for;
  • communicate with you about your specific request; and
  • where you ask us to, connect you with a relevant professional from our network (see "Sharing your information").

Where data protection laws such as the EU/UK GDPR apply, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Consent — when you submit the contact form, when you ask us to share your details with a professional, and when you subscribe to our newsletter or marketing emails. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests — to respond to your enquiries, to operate and secure the Service, and to protect against abuse, in a way that does not override your rights.

6. Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We only share information in these limited circumstances:

  • With professionals, only with your explicit consent. Connecting readers with vetted, independent professionals (such as immigration attorneys, real estate agents, and financial advisors) is part of what we do. We will only pass your details to a professional if you specifically ask us to or clearly agree to it. Once a professional receives your information, they act as an independent controller of that data and their own privacy practices apply.
  • With service providers. We use trusted infrastructure providers to run the Service (see below), who process data on our behalf under appropriate confidentiality and data-protection terms.
  • For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or to protect our rights, safety, or property, or those of others.

7. Service providers

Our website and database are hosted on Cloudflare infrastructure (including Cloudflare's database and storage services). Cloudflare processes data on our behalf in order to host the Service, store the messages you send us, and protect the site from security threats. We do not use any other third-party processors for your contact data at this time.

8. Marketing

If you opt in, we may send you our newsletter and occasional emails with guides, updates, and resources we think you will find useful. We send these only to people who have actively chosen to receive them — for example, by subscribing or by selecting a clear opt-in option. We do not add you to our marketing list simply because you used the contact form; we use the email you send through the contact form only to reply to your enquiry.

Every marketing email includes an easy way to unsubscribe, and you can opt out at any time by using that link or by contacting us. We rely on your consent as the legal basis for sending you marketing, and you can withdraw that consent at any time without affecting messages already sent.

9. Analytics

We may collect basic, aggregate analytics about how the Service is used, for example which pages are popular and roughly where our visitors come from, to help us improve our content and services.

We do this in a privacy-friendly, cookieless way: our analytics does not set cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not store information that identifies you personally. We only ever see the resulting statistics in aggregate.

10. Data retention

We keep the information you send us only for as long as it is needed to respond to you and provide the guidance you have requested, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you follow up. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see "Your rights"), and we will do so unless we are required to keep it for legal reasons.

11. Data security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. International transfers

We operate an online service accessible worldwide, and our infrastructure provider may process and store data on servers located outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on providers that offer appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

13. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal information. We extend these rights to all of our users wherever practical:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your personal information.
  • Restriction and objection — ask us to restrict or stop certain processing of your information.
  • Portability — ask us to provide your information in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent — withdraw any consent you have given, at any time, without affecting processing that already took place.
  • Complain — lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (for example, in the EU/UK).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

Additional rights for California residents

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA, also gives you the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and share it, to access, correct, and delete that information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

14. Children's privacy

The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18 years. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it immediately.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to highlight them. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
